France-Luce Benson graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing. She is a two-time recipient of the Shubert Foundation Fellowship, and was awarded a $10,000 grant by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for her screenplay Healing Roots. This year, the Sloan Foundation commissioned Ms. Benson to write The Devil's Salt, a full length play inspired by the work of activist/journalist/and agronomist - Jean Dominique. She was also appointed to adapt Caroline’s Wedding, by famed novelist Edwidge Danticat, for the screen. Her play Fati’s Last Dance received the Lorraine Hansberry Award for Playwriting from the Kennedy Center (Honorable Mention), played at Victory Garand a scholarship recipient at the Upright Citizens Brigade Training Center. Healing Roots, her first feature length screenplay, den Theatre’s Ignition Festival, and was awarded the Mary Marlin Fisher Award given by Carnegie Mellon University. Fati’s Last Dance was also featured at Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Octoberfest 2010, and her plays Risen from the Dough and Learning to Swim were both produced at EST's Going to the River Festival. The Talk, produced at TFTT 2012, had an encore performance at Crossroads Theatre’s Genesis Festival. Black Baby Agency, a comedy short written and developed at Upright Citizens Brigade is currently in production and will hit the web soon. She is a Lifetime Member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre, a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, Inc., New York Women in Film and Television, and an Associate Professor at St. John’s University.
