The Pumpkin Pie Show in

The Birds and the Bees

All-New Stories Written by Clay McLeod Chapman
Music Written & Performed by Michael Hearst & Joshua Camp of One Ring Zero
Performances by Hanna Cheek & Clay McLeod Chapman

Enter the realm of THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW a storytelling session delivered with the punk rock Kamikaze intensity of an artistic three-way between literature, theatre and music. Backed by a live soundtrack from One Ring Zero, Clay McLeod Chapman and company shatter the dividing line between spectator and actor to create a rock concert/theatrical sideshow, earning a worldwide cult following that grows with each new performance.

The Pumpkin Pie Show has finally decided it's time that we all had a talk . . . a talk about the changes your body has been going through. The crack in your voice, hair sprouting out in unfamiliar places . . . those odd feelings you're having for the girl next door. Don't worry; it's perfectly natural.

ALL-NEW STORIES INCLUDE . . .

"Late Bloomer"
A seventh grade sex-ed class turns into an orgy of ungodly proportions. . .

"Bridesmaid"
A younger sister spills the beans on her newly married sibling after a few too many martinis at the wedding reception. . .

"Cradle and All"
A mother turns a high-rise horror into a palatable fantasy for her baby daughter, just minutes before the two come toppling down to the street, forty stories below.

Critical Praise For The Pumpkin Pie Show

"Like a younger, weirder, hornier, and, well, alive Eudora Welty, Chapman dishes out a fresh plate of his Southern-fried Gothic tales."
The Village Voice

"Clay McLeod Chapman stuns his audience with brilliant forays into grotesque narrative territory."
The Greenwich Village Gazette

"energetic and richly theatrical."

CLAY McLEOD CHAPMAN is a playwright and storyteller who has seen his short fiction transported to the stage over the last ten years . . produced in Romania, Scotland, Ireland and the United States. Originator of The Pumpkin Pie Show, Chapman has taken his writing to the Sibiu International Festival of Theatre (1997/2001), FringeNYC (1997/99/2001), the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Zipper Theater (off-Broadway), along the waterfront at Riverside Park South and Coney Island Fun Park. His first book of short stories, Rest Area (nominated by Hyperion Books for the Pulitzer Prize in fiction), hit the shelves in early 2002 . . while his second book, Miss Corpus (a novel) will be released in 2003. Recent projects include an Off-Broadway production of his short stories (Broken Boughs) as well as reading of his original material along with the likes of Mike Daisey, Rick Moody, AM Homes, Lawrence Krauser and Jonathan Ames. ONE RING ZERO is Michael Hearst and Joshua Camp. The duo began working together shortly after both graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with degrees in musical composition. The music is held together by a wide collection of highly unusual instruments and sounds and is often recorded using experimental techniques. With the release of their first record, Tranz Party, a six-piece band was put together to perform live and has shared billings with Cibo Matto, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, The Magnetic Fields, Thurston Moore and The Roots. One Ring Zero can be seen weekly at the store associated with McSweeney's publishing in Brooklyn, and frequently plays at other literary events around the city. Recently, One Ring Zero completed two new albums . . one of which features music composed for The Pumpkin Pie Show.

HANNA CHEEK spent the last four years of her acting career bouncing between New York, Los Angeles and Chicago in a feverish attempt to become a working tri-coastal actress. She most recently performed The Pumpkin Pie Show: Big Top (a collection of long character monologues) to rave reviews, The Red Room in NYC. Other stage credits include The Seagull (Nina) and Kindertransport (Ava) at Sarah Lawrence College. She performed with Judith: A Comedy Troupe at The Kitchen, NYC, and would have replaced Rachel Miner or Margot in The Diary of Anne Frank (Music Box Theatre, NYC) had they not decided to close the show. Damn. In Los Angeles, she co-wrote, directed and performed in Bad Touch: A Sketchy Show at Masquers Theatre, as well as many improvised comedies at the Improv Olympic Theatre. Television credits include a guest starring role on Titus (Fox), a recurring role on Undressed (MTV), and a featured role on The West Wing (NBC). Hanna studied at Sarah Lawrence College, The British Academy of Dramatic Arts and Improv Olympic West.
