In a cold prison cell, in an anonymous totalitarian country, two political prisoners debate guilt versus innocence, happiness versus productivity, honesty versus betrayal, art versus duty…while wearing big clown shoes and rubber noses. Ardor Doody is a satirical comedy about two circus clowns and one mime fighting the government the only way they know how - but which one will have the last laugh?

A hedge fund manager and his wife ride the rails in search of jobs, in a magical-realist world inspired by the classic song “Big Rock Candy Mountain." Cushioned from any real hardship by their wealth, they lament their fate while trying to avoid being interrogated the ineffectual and fawning SEC. A biting musical satire about the disproportionate emphasis on helping those who got us into this mess in the first place.

The production, presented by Horse Trade Theater Group and Subjective Theatre Company, will play at The Red Room (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Ave and Bowery) September 8-13, Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm. Steven Gillenwater (Director, Ardor Doody) Steven Gillenwater holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree and Graduate Certificate from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Since 2003, Steven has been working with The Subjective Theatre Company, first as the Community Outreach Director and, currently, as the Producer for the STC Reading Series. Directing credits with Subjective include An American Book of the Dead as part of The Rubin Museum of Art's Brainwave Festival, Face of Beauty at 78th Street Theatre Lab and 7 Blowjobs at Manhattan Theatre Source. Other directing credits include: Monroe Bound (Midtown International Theatre Festival, Mighty Little Productions) Dying of Consumption (2008 Binge Festival), Wood (Fuckplays Festival at The Ohio Theatre) and Oceanside Parkway (Working Man’s Clothes at American Place Theatre).

Jesse Cameron Alick
(Co-author, Ardor Doody) Jesse Cameron Alick is poet, playwright and Zen Master. Jesse works as the Artistic Director for Subjective Theatre Company, is a playwright with Ensemble Studio Theater’s Youngblood program, is the Executive Assistant to the Artistic Director at the Public Theater and is Assistant to the playwright Suzan-Lori Parks. Jesse has had essays, articles and poetry published by High Contrast Review, XY, A&U, POZ, The Errorist, Courier Life, Smokin Word Publications and Random House. He has been commissioned to write work for Streetlight Productions, Freedom Train Productions and Working Man’s Clothes among others.

Lucile Scott (Co-Author, Ardor Doody) Lucille is a New York City-based writer and director and an executive member of Mighty Little Productions. Her work has been featured around town at venues like The Cherry Lane Studio, WOW Cafe Theater, The Bowery Poetry Club and the American Theater of Actors. Some of the works have won awards in festivals. She is also a contributing writer at POZ, the nation's leading magazine about HIV and AIDS, and has traveled to destinations including Jamaica and India to report on the global epidemic. She is a graduate of Northwestern University.

Julia Holleman (Playwright, Big Rock Candy Mountain) co-created and co-wrote STC’s Party Discipline and TELL. Her play Face of Beauty was produced by STC in December, and she is the story editor on Subjective Films’ Handsome Zombies. She will be starting NYU’s MFA Playwriting program in the fall.

Lucas Cantor
(Composer, Big Rock Candy Mountain) producer, sound designer, and composer for theatre, television, and film. Emmy Award Winner for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Lucas is the Executive Director of
Subjective Films, and is at the helm of its current project "Zack Griffiths in Handsome Zombies" coming to an internet near you November 2nd, 2009 www.HandsomeZombies.com
