About KEVIN MAHER
and THE SCI FI DEPARTMENT

KEVIN MAHER is an Emmy-nominated comedy writer whose work has been seen on Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, VH1 and HBO’s This Just In.  He’s made over 50 short films, which have been shown everywhere from MoMA to Troma, with screenings outside of Sundance and Cannes.  Kevin produced the monthly comedy film festivals Video Vaudeville and First Sundays.  He also wrote and produced 11 stage shows, including the off-off-Broadway hit Lone Drifter. Critics have compared Kevin to Ernie Kovacs and Jonathan Winters, but his highest praise came from Tiger Beat, who called him “funny!”

Last year, American Movie Classics hired Kevin to host THE SCI FI DEPARTMENT.  He’s becoming the Joe-Bob Briggs of his generation, with a web-show that takes an “inside baseball” approach to science-fiction, with episode like:

An oral history of the Star Wars Holiday special
A walking tour of Sci Fi New York (and how it’s constantly getting destroyed on film)
A guide to movies almost ruined by casting disasters
And a roundtable discussion on The Golden Compass with a Harry Potter fan, a Lord of the Rings fan, a Narnia fan and a guy who loves CGI Polar Bears
