This mythic retelling of a Biblical parable
(Luke 15; the prodigal son story) is set on a failing farm at the height
of the Depression. Sacrifice to Eros follows the Westfield family as they
make their journey from ignorance to the promise of understanding to the
acceptance of forbidden love. Gay themes and a multiracial cast heighten
the emotional issues of prejudice and oppression among family and society.
