Esra Cizmeci
Esra Cizmeci (CHOREOGRAPHER, CHORUS I, MOTHER, SUGGS, CHILD I), is a native of Turkey and has appeared in several international theatre festivals including FRIGID New York, Istanbul International Theatre Festival and New York International Fringe Festival. She has received her MFA in Acting from CUNY Brooklyn College and her BA in Theatre from Istanbul State Conservatory. She is a founding member and resident choreographer of newFangled theatReR. She originated the roles of First Lady and Doris in the October ‘05 and August ’06 productions of the AmerikAn trip, tik. Recent roles include Renee in Why We Have A Body, Elida in Local Subjectivities and Global Visions in Conflict and The Woman in Brecht's The Informer. She is a Teaching Artist through the Women’s Project’s Ten Centuries of Women Playwrights program. Her research focuses on Middle Eastern theatre and Greek classics. She plans to pursue her PhD in Theatre History. She is a founding member of Tiyatro Global, a Brooklyn based international company of researchers and practitioners.
